Join us to celebrate our community and practice sustainable alternatives in this third annual event, offered in collaboration with the Concord Public Schools, the Thoreau PTG, Safe Routes to Schools, and Mothers Out Front.  In case of bad weather, the Thoreau Walk to School will be held on Wednesday, February 11. The 2026 Writer-in-Residence, Danielle Bradley, will be in the Commons each Thursday from 11:30 - 12:30 and invites the public to join her for friendly conversation. Bring questions and thoughts about writing, books, or whatever else is on your mind. No registration required! From the press release announcing Danielle's appointment: CONCORD, MA - The Concord Free Public Library and the Trustees of the Concord Free Public Library Corporation are delighted to announce that Danielle Bradley has been selected as the Library’s 2026 Writer-in-Residence, continuing Concord’s tradition of fostering creativity, imagination, and community connection through literature. Danielle Bradley is the winner of the 2025 Simon & Schuster Books Like Us First Novel Contest and the 2025/2026 Elizabeth Alexander Creative Writing Award. Her work appears or is forthcoming in journals, including Salt Hill Journal, Indiana Review, and Colorado Review. Her creative work has been supported with scholarships and residencies from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, the Juniper Summer Writing Institute, the Hudson Valley Writers Center, and Smith College. Bradley is the second daughter of a Puerto Rican landscaper and a domestic worker and received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and MFA for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. My first attempt at oil painting was inspired by my wife, Joëlle, and our 1980 visit to the Grand Palais in Paris to see the Monet retrospective. Since then, I painted sporadically while pursuing a career in television production. My experience in lighting for those video images has certainly influenced my paintings. Joëlle appears in many of my early works from the 1980’s. When we moved to Concord, I discovered endless, enchanting locations to paint in this beautiful town. Ricardo Rosales will join us on the first Saturday of each month for a special music class in Spanish and English. Expand your musical and language skills! About Ricardo: Ricardo Rosales is a classically trained bassoonist from the school of music of Guanajuato University, Mexico. He has over 20 years of experience teaching music theory and practice with students of all ages. He was in Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy in San Pablo, California for 5 years teaching guitar, piano, and voice for kids 6-12 years old. In addition to teaching and playing Mexican folk music, he played with the San Francisco State University Orchestra, Golden Gate Symphony and with chamber groups around the Bay Area. Improve your physical and mental well-being while building strength, mobility, and confidence in movement. Local fitness instructor Carol will guide participants through a gentle, total body class that focuses on bodyweight exercises, mobility work, and stretching. Movements will be adaptable for a wide range of abilities and designed to be easily incorporated into an at-home routine. This will be an active class, so please wear comfortable clothing. Mats are available, but you are welcome to bring your own. Note: While this will focus on gentle movements, participants should check with their doctor before beginning, especially if they have existing injuries or health concerns.   About the instructor: A West Concord resident, Carol is a certified personal trainer who helps people build functional strength and confidence in their everyday movements. She works with individuals at many stages of their fitness journey, whether they’re just starting out, returning to movement after a break, or looking to build on an existing routine. Carol believes movement should feel accessible and empowering to support everyday life. Outside of community classes, Carol works one-on-one with clients in their homes, creating personalized programs that adapt to individual goals and environments. An avid runner, Carol is also a parent with children at Thoreau and CMS. Films at Fowler continues in winter 2026 with Location, Location, Location! For 26 years Concord film viewers gathered on winter evenings at Fowler Library to see some of the most interesting and stimulating examples of current and classic cinema from around the world. That movie series, now called Films at Fowler, changed to an online video streaming format in 2021 and continues in that format in 2024. Because we no longer meet in person, we now watch—on your own schedule—selected movies on Kanopy, a free streaming service available to Library patrons. We will then gather on Zoom on scheduled evenings for a lively movie discussion. The theme of the movies this winter is Location, Location, Location!  The movies in this series are strongly reflected of and influenced by the environment and locale where the movie takes place.  The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2024) Discussion date on Zoom: Wednesday, February 11 at 7 p.m - This Iranian political thriller centers on a judge in Tehran who suspects his family is betraying him. The 2026 Writer-in-Residence, Danielle Bradley, will be in the Commons each Thursday from 11:30 - 12:30 and invites the public to join her for friendly conversation. Bring questions and thoughts about writing, books, or whatever else is on your mind. No registration required! From the press release announcing Danielle's appointment: CONCORD, MA - The Concord Free Public Library and the Trustees of the Concord Free Public Library Corporation are delighted to announce that Danielle Bradley has been selected as the Library’s 2026 Writer-in-Residence, continuing Concord’s tradition of fostering creativity, imagination, and community connection through literature. Danielle Bradley is the winner of the 2025 Simon & Schuster Books Like Us First Novel Contest and the 2025/2026 Elizabeth Alexander Creative Writing Award. Her work appears or is forthcoming in journals, including Salt Hill Journal, Indiana Review, and Colorado Review. Her creative work has been supported with scholarships and residencies from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, the Juniper Summer Writing Institute, the Hudson Valley Writers Center, and Smith College. Bradley is the second daughter of a Puerto Rican landscaper and a domestic worker and received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and MFA for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Our Girls Who Code club is part of a national non-profit that aims to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Our participants (ages 10 to 14) meet weekly on  from October to May to: learn to code from local women in STEM fields, build relationships with peers and role models in a safe, supportive environment, and work together to design and complete community-oriented projects that matter to them. Please note: All participants are required to have an individual, personal email address which they are able to access during meetings. Please make arrangements for your child(ren) to be able to log into a personal email address with a username, password, and two-factor authentication, if required. A limited number of laptops are available to participants. We strongly encourage those who are able to bring a personal laptop computer or tablet. Yoga mats, straps, and blocks are available, but you can also bring your own.  Bio: A yoga student for 20 years and a teacher for over 17 years, Erica’s classes are uplifting and playful, yet rooted in functional movement and the great inquiry of the self. In addition to being a yoga teacher, Erica is an acupressure practitioner and has studied anatomy, therapeutics and functional movement extensively. She is passionate about working with the prenatal and postnatal community. When not on the mat, she can be found with her family, her camera, and nature!
